Optional Program Parameters
Previous  Top  Next

A number of parameters can be specified to facilitate operation of the program in a variety of computing environments. The following parameters (which are in effect for the current session only -- unless stated otherwise) can be specified at program start if the Prompt for Optional Parameters at Program Start has been activated in the Configure Menu.

bmcThe software checks to see if the desired amount of RAM (8MB) is available when it starts. If the desired amount of RAM is not available, a message stating how much additional RAM is needed is displayed.

RAM can often be freed by loading DOS high, moving device drivers into high memory, loading other programs into UMB's, unloading TSR's, reducing the BUFFERS= parameter in the CONFIG.SYS file, etc.

If the needed amount of RAM cannot be freed, specifying this argument instructs the memory check to be by-passed and run the software anyway. A warning message stating that the memory check has been by-passed and errors may occur is displayed.

clcfA "master" configuration file containing setup parameters is stored in the software's home directory. Most parameters can only by changed by a user ID that has been given access to the entire Configure menu. However, there are some parameters that can be changed by any user ID. These parameters are stored in a "local" configuration file. If the "master" configuration file is changed, the changes are not propagated to the "local" configuration file.

Specifying this argument clears the "local" configuration file and re-creates it using the current values in the "master" configuration file.

codeCauses various debug information to be displayed during program operation.

singleForces the network version to run in single user mode. This argument is used to access the Utilities Menu, the full Configure Menu, and to isolate network difficulties.

xargcSpecifying this argument instructs the software to display various values when it starts.
